Biography
The artist is born in the Netherlands in 1946, she studies medicine at the university of Utrecht and becomes a general physician.
In 1974 she moves with her family to Costa Rica but in the eighties she returns to her passion for the arts and receives sculpture classes from maestro Mario Parra.
The artist tries to transform organic forms in an abstract way, to open up spaces, and generate a three dimensional union between matter and light.
The synthesis of form and movement projects energy and force.
With her clean technique she purifies precious woods and marble.
She has participated in several collective and individual expositions and won de sculpture award of the BTC bienal in 1999.
Works of Ria are in private collections in Costa Rica, Dutch Antilles , United States, Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, South Africa, Russia and Hong Kong
